Victoria Principal

What's After the Movie

Victoria Principal

Victoria Principal, born Vicki Ree Principal on January 3, 1950 in Fukuoka, Japan, is an American actress, producer, entrepreneur, and author whose career spans more than five decades. After a childhood marked by frequent moves due to her father’s Air Force service and an early start in television commercials at age five, she pursued acting full‑time following a life‑changing car accident that redirected her ambitions from medicine to the stage. Her breakthrough came with the Golden Globe‑nominated role of Marie Elena in The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972), which led to memorable parts in films such as Earthquake (1974) and a bold nude feature in The Naked Ape (1973). In 1978 she auditioned for the pilot of Dallas on her own initiative, securing the iconic role of Pamela Barnes Ewing; her nine‑year tenure on the soap opera made her a global household name and earned a second Golden Globe nomination in 1983. While on Dallas, Principal negotiated a contract that protected her image rights, allowing her to pursue parallel ventures without network interference. After leaving the series in 1987, she founded Victoria Principal Productions, producing and starring in a series of television movies, and launched the highly successful skincare line Principal Secret in 1989, which grew into a multi‑billion‑dollar business. An accomplished author, she penned four bestselling books on health and beauty, beginning with The Body Principal (1983). Beyond entertainment and business, she is a dedicated philanthropist, establishing the Victoria Principal Foundation for Thoughtful Existence and supporting environmental, animal‑rescue, and disaster‑relief causes worldwide. Her multifaceted legacy reflects a relentless drive to reinvent herself, champion personal wellness, and give back to the planet.
