Tobias Menzies

Tobias Simpson Menzies (born 7 March 1974 in Hammersmith, London) is an acclaimed English actor whose career spans stage, screen, and radio. From his early training at the Perry Court Rudolf Steiner School and Frensham Heights School to his graduation from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1998, he quickly established a reputation for versatility and depth. He first appeared on television in an eleven‑episode stint on the BBC medical drama Casualty in 1998, and soon after took on a variety of roles in series such as Midsomer Murders, Foyle’s War, and Ultimate Force. His breakthrough came with the role of Marcus Junius Brutus in the critically praised HBO/BBC series Rome (2005‑07), where his performance captured the political intrigue and moral conflict of the era. Menzies later gained international fame portraying Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones (2013‑2019) and the dual characters Frank Randall and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in the time‑travel drama Outlander (2014‑2022), showcasing his skill at navigating complex, multi‑period narratives.
