Susan Taslimi

Susan Taslimi is an Iranian‑Swedish film and theatre actress, director, and screenwriter renowned for her pioneering contributions to both Persian and Scandinavian cinema. Born on 7 February 1950 in Rasht, Iran, she is the daughter of film producer Khosro Taslimi and actress Monireh Taslimi, which immersed her in a creative environment from an early age. After graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, Taslimi debuted on screen in Bahram Bayzai’s critically acclaimed Ballad of Tara (1979), delivering a powerful performance as the titular character that established her as a leading talent in Iranian cinema. She continued to build an impressive résumé with roles in Death of Yazdgerd (1982), Bashu, the Little Stranger (1986), and the television series Sarbedaran (1984), showcasing a versatile range that spans historical drama, contemporary social critique, and emotionally charged narratives. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s she worked with some of Iran’s most influential directors, earning a reputation for choosing complex, often socially resonant projects, and becoming a household name in her homeland.
