Steven Gordon Rodgers, commonly known as Steve Rodgers, is an Australian former politician whose career spanned both hands‑on trades and parliamentary service. Born on 23 June 1951 in Lismore, New South Wales, he first qualified as a boilermaker, a demanding skill that grounded his work ethic and gave him a deep appreciation for industrial labour. During his early adulthood he completed national service from April 1972 to January 1973, an experience that contributed to his sense of civic duty. In 1997 he expanded his technical repertoire by earning certification as a carpet‑cleaning technician from the Australian Carpet Cleaning Institute, demonstrating a versatile approach to employment. Rodgers became actively involved in local politics, holding the positions of President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Burdekin ALP branch, where he cultivated strong community ties and organizational expertise. His surprise victory in the 2001 Queensland state election for the seat of Burdekin displaced incumbent Jeff Knuth, marking a significant shift toward Labor in a traditionally contested district.
