Sofia Essaïdi

Sofia Essaïdi (born 6 August 1984) is a French‑Moroccan singer and actress whose multicultural heritage and dynamic stage presence have made her a prominent figure in Francophone pop culture. Born in Casablanca to Moroccan father Lhabib Essaïdi and French mother Martine Adeline Gardelle, she grew up surrounded by diverse musical influences that sparked her passion for performance from a young age. In 2003, Essaïdi entered the spotlight by competing in the third season of Star Academy France, where her soulful vocals and charismatic personality carried her to the semi‑finals and ultimately a runner‑up finish behind Elodie Frégé. The exposure led to a nationwide tour that took her from the streets of Paris to the vibrant stages of Morocco and Papeete, Tahiti, where she celebrated her twentieth birthday amidst adoring fans. Capitalising on this momentum, she released her debut album Mon cabaret in August 2005, an eclectic mix of French pop and R&B that showcased her versatility as both a vocalist and a performer.
