Sam Spruell, born on 1 January 1977, is a renowned British character actor who is primarily recognized for his portrayals of mostly villainous roles. He was born and raised in Southwark, London. As part of his early education, Spruell attended Hull University before completely immersing himself in the world of acting. In fact, his acting prowess may be genetic, as his mother, Linda Broughton, is also an acclaimed actress.

Spruell made a name for himself in the realm of theater, making his stage debut with the Royal National Theatre. He has had the opportunity to be part of many notable productions such as 'The Caretaker', 'Pornography', 'A Midsummer Night's Dreams', and many more. His journey into cinema began with Kathryn Bigelow's submarine drama 'K-19: The Widowmaker' in 2002. Also an active participant in TV series, Spruell has been involved in the series like 'Spooks', 'Mayday', 'The Last Ship', and 'Luther' to name a few. His portrayal of the 'immortal hired gun' Ole Munch in the fifth season of the Fargo series was especially acclaimed. Likewise, in 2024, Spruell bagged the role of Maekar Targaryen in the much-anticipated upcoming series 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'.
