Rose Gregorio was a phenomenal American actress known for her extensive work in both theatre and the film industry. She was born on October 17, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois to Italian parents. Early in her career, during the 1950s and 1960s, she graced the stages of New York and Chicago, captivating audiences with her performances. In the 1970s, she transitioned to the screen, lending her talents to television and film productions in mostly supporting roles. Some of her notable theatric performances include shows like 'The Days and Nights of BeeBee Fenstermaker', 'Journey to the Day', 'The Cuban Thing', and 'Jimmy Shine'. Gregorio also stood as a standby performer during the mid-1960s for numerous Broadway shows, ready to step in for the main actress during unforeseen circumstances. She officially debuted on Broadway in 1968 in Jack Gelber's 'The Cuban Thing'. Her television debut was in 1961 on the show 'Armstrong Circle Theatre'. Her performances were not limited to the stage, she made headway in the film industry with roles in movies such as 'Desperate Characters', 'Mr. Ricco', 'True Confessions' and 'The Deep End of the Ocean' to name a few. Her career also involved appearances in multiple television series such as 'ER', 'The Doctors', 'Medical Center', 'Falcon Crest', 'Murder, She Wrote' and others. Gregorio was honored with the Clarence Derwent and Drama Desk awards for the role of Agnes in the original production of Michael Cristofer's 'The Shadow Box', and she also received a Tony nomination for the same. Rose Gregorio passed away at the age of 97, due to pneumonia at her home in Greenwich Village on August 17, 2023. Her work continues to inspire generations of actors and actresses.
