Robin Aubert

Robin Aubert was born on May 3, 1972 in the small town of Ham‑Nord, Quebec, Canada, a region known for its rich francophone heritage. From a young age he displayed a keen interest in performance, joining the sketch comedy troupe Les Chick'n Swell as a founding member in 1990. His early stage work included demanding productions such as Jean‑Marc Dalpé's Eddy and Daniel Danis's Le Pont de pierres et la peau d'images, which honed his craft and introduced him to the Quebec theatrical community. By the mid‑1990s Aubert transitioned to screen roles, appearing in popular television series like 4 et demi and Radio Enfer, as well as his first notable film The Countess of Baton Rouge (La Comtesse de Bâton Rouge). His compelling lead performance earned him a Genie Award nomination for Best Actor at the 18th Genie Awards in 1997, cementing his reputation as a versatile actor capable of navigating both comedic and dramatic terrain. Over the next two decades Aubert built a prolific résumé, starring in a diverse array of Canadian and international productions such as Maelström, The Negro (Le nèg'), Mammouth, Father and Guns (De père en flic), Miraculum—which garnered him a Prix Jutra nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2015—The Masters of Suspense, Amsterdam, and My Internship in Canada (Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre). He also became a familiar face on television, contributing to series like Temps dur, Les Invincibles, and Le Gentleman. Parallel to his acting career, Aubert pursued filmmaking, debuting with short works in 1999; his short Lila received a Jutra nomination for Best Short Film in 2001. He made his feature‑length directorial debut with Saint Martyrs of the Damned in 2005, followed by Train to Nowhere (2009), Crying Out (2010), Tuktuq (2016) and the critically acclaimed horror‑thriller Ravenous (Les Affamés) in 2017, which won the Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian Film. His most recent project, You’ll Never Know (2023), demonstrates his continued commitment to innovative storytelling and solidifies his status as a multifaceted pillar of Canadian cinema.
