Reece Dinsdale

Reece Dinsdale was born on 6 August 1959 in Altofts, West Riding of Yorkshire, England and displayed a passion for performance from a very young age. At twelve he starred as Tom Sawyer at Normanton Grammar School, a precocious debut that foreshadowed a prolific career in drama. After completing his secondary education he earned a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1977 and graduated in 1980, honing a versatile craft that would serve him on stage, screen, and later behind the camera. Dinsdale’s early professional work took him to regional theatres in Exeter, Nottingham and Birmingham, and to the Edinburgh Festival, where his talent attracted television producers. His first TV appearance came in the Granada thriller Knife Edge (1981) followed by the BBC drama Out on the Floor (1982) and a role as Albert in Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime the same year. The mid‑1980s cemented his reputation with the haunting film Threads (1984), the comedy A Private Function (1984) and the television movie Winter Flight. Parallel to his screen work, he remained a stalwart of the stage, appearing in productions such as Beethoven’s Tenth with Peter Ustinov, the acclaimed Red Saturday at the Royal Court, and a celebrated run in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Old Year’s Eve.
