Pawel Pawlikowski

Paweł Aleksander Pawlikowski, born on September 15, 1957, is a successful filmmaker from Poland. He came into global recognition during the 1990s for his exceptional documentaries and later for his award-winning feature films, Last Resort and My Summer of Love in the early 2000s. His fame continued to grow in the 2010s with films like Ida, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Cold War, another masterpiece by Pawlikowski, earned him the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. Pawlikowski's transition to fiction occurred in 1998 with Twockers, a small 50-minute hybrid film. His career was briefly interrupted in 2006, when his wife fell gravely ill.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, to a doctor father and a ballet dancer mother who later became an English literature professor, Pawlikowski left Poland at the age of 14. He moved to London, Germany and finally settled in Britain in 1977, where he studied literature and philosophy at Oxford University. Pawlikowski is multi-lingual, speaking Polish, German, Russian among other languages. After his children left for university, he moved to Paris but subsequently relocated to Warsaw. His first wife tragically passed away in 2006 due to serious illness, leaving behind two children. At the end of 2017, Pawlikowski married Polish model and actress, Małgosia Bela.
