He attended The New School in New York City, graduating in 2001, and before stepping onto a soundstage he honed a meticulous craft as a barber, a trade that taught him patience and an eye for detail. Shakir’s transition to acting began in the mid‑1990s, with his first professional credit appearing in 1996, and he quickly cultivated a reputation for physical presence and understated intensity. His early screen work included a lead role in the short‑lived series Quarry and a guest spot on the time‑travel drama Timeless, showcasing his versatility across genres.
