Mr. Lawrence

Douglas Lawrence Osowski, professionally known as Mr. Lawrence, is a multifaceted American entertainer whose career spans voice acting, screenwriting, animation, and stand‑up comedy. Born on January 1, 1969 in East Brunswick, New Jersey, he discovered an early passion for performance, appearing in sketch‑comedy shows during high school summers before enrolling at The Kubert School, where he studied comic‑book art for two years before leaving to pursue live comedy. His break into the animation industry came in the early 1990s when he was hired by the groundbreaking studio Spümcø, where he worked as a layout assistant on the notoriously chaotic second season of The Ren & Stimpy Show under creator John Kricfalusi. After a brief stint at Games Animation under Bob Camp, Lawrence joined the creative team of Rocko’s Modern Life, where he not only voiced the beloved sidekick Filburt but also contributed as a writer and director, sharpening the irreverent humor that would become his hallmark. In 1999 Lawrence transitioned to SpongeBob SquarePants, a partnership that has endured for more than two decades; he provides the iconic voice of Sheldon J. Plankton, the muscular Larry the Lobster, and a rotating cast of oddball characters such as Fred and Potty the Parrot. His behind‑the‑scenes work evolved from staff writer to story editor by the series’ tenth season, influencing story arcs and comedic timing across hundreds of episodes. Beyond SpongeBob, he lent his vocal talents to Camp Lazlo (voicing Edward T. Platypus and others), The Aquabats! Super Show! (as Manant), and numerous video‑game projects, while also producing the television series Johnny Talk and writing for The Twisted Whiskers Show and Mighty Magiswords. As a stand‑up comedian, Lawrence has performed in New Jersey and Los Angeles, collaborating with fellow comedians Jeremy Kramer and Martin Olson, and his off‑beat humor has earned praise from industry peers such as Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, who described his comedic style as uniquely baffling. Today he resides in Burbank, California with his wife Mary Ann, continuing to shape animated comedy through both voice work and creative writing.
