Mary Woodvine

Mary Louise Woodvine (born 14 July 1967) is a British television and stage actress whose career spans over three decades, showcasing a versatility that ranges from soap operas to avant‑garde cinema. Born in Queen Charlotte's Hospital in Hammersmith, London, she is the daughter of veteran actor John Woodvine, an influence that sparked her early interest in performance and led her to train at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Her breakthrough on screen came with the role of Mary Harkinson in the BBC soap EastEnders in 2003, but she had already built a solid foundation in theatre as a core member of Kneehigh Theatre, where she honed the physicality and collaborative spirit that would define many of her later projects. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s she amassed a diverse television résumé, appearing in series such as Space Precinct, The Worst Witch, Judge John Deed, Doc Martin, Heartbeat and Poldark, often portraying complex, authoritative women with understated power.
