Marc Anthony

Marc Anthony, born Marco Antonio Muñiz on September 16, 1968 in New York City, is an American singer, songwriter and actor who has become the best‑selling salsa artist in history. Raised in East Harlem as the youngest of eight children to Puerto Rican parents Felipe Muñiz and Guillermina Quiñones, he absorbed a mix of Latin rhythms and African‑American R&B, rock and house music that later defined his crossover style. After starting as a session vocalist and backing singer for freestyle acts and writing for Menudo, he released his first freestyle album 'Rebel' in 1988 before turning to salsa with the 1993 RMM Records debut 'Otra Nota', a record that announced his rise as a tropical star. Subsequent albums such as 'Todo a su Tiempo', 'Contra la Corriente' and 'Libre' earned Grammy and Latin Grammy honors, while his 1999 English‑language self‑titled album produced the Billboard hit “I Need to Know” and cemented his place in the Latin pop explosion of the early 2000s.
