What's After the Movie
Lucy Chet DeVito (born March 11, 1983) is an American actress and philanthropist best known for her versatile work across television, film, and stage. She grew up in Los Angeles as the daughter of celebrated actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, and was immersed in the entertainment world from a young age, sharing a household with her siblings Grace Fan DeVito and Jacob Daniel DeVito. After completing her secondary education, Lucy pursued a degree in theater at Brown University, graduating in 2007, where she honed her craft and developed a deep appreciation for both classical and contemporary performance styles. Her professional career launched in 2005, and she quickly earned critical attention with a non‑speaking autistic lead role in the Ensemble Studio Theater production Lucy (2007), demonstrating her willingness to tackle challenging material. Throughout the late 2000s, DeVito expanded her repertoire, starring as Anne Frank at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre (2008) and as La Piccola in The Miracle at Naples at the Huntington Theatre (2009), while also breaking into film with a supporting part in Leaves of Grass (2009). She later appeared alongside her mother in the off‑Broadway revival of Love, Loss, and What I Wore, further cementing her stage credentials. Television audiences recognized her as a recurring presence on ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey (2010‑2012) and as a lead in Hulu’s comedy series Deadbeat (2014‑2015). More recently, she served as both voice actor and executive producer for the animated series Little Demon (2022) and made her Broadway debut in I Need That (2023). In addition to her artistic endeavors, Lucy has been an active member of the Ensemble Studio Theater’s developmental program since 2007 and participates in numerous charitable initiatives, reflecting her commitment to giving back. In April 2024 she announced her pregnancy, and in July 2024 welcomed her son, Carmine, marking a new personal milestone alongside her ongoing professional pursuits.
