Kelly Ann McGillis, born on July 9, 1957, is a renowned American actress with a career span of more than three decades starting from 1976 to present. Notable for her roles in high profile films such as Witness (1985), Top Gun (1986), Made in Heaven (1987), The House on Carroll Street (1988), and The Accused (1988), she has shown exceptional versatility and depth in her acting. In recent years, she has ventured into horror films with significant roles in Stake Land (2010), The Innkeepers (2011), and We Are What We Are (2013). Born and brought up in Newport Beach, California, she pursued acting at the Juilliard School in New York City after initial training at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. She made a name for herself with her debut film, Reuben, Reuben (1983), and later in Top Gun as the flight instructor of Tom Cruise's character. However, a disappointing experience with the film Cat Chaser prompted her to take a break from the industry. Over the years, she also appeared in several television and stage productions earning critical acclaim. Returning to Television, she joined the cast of Showtime's The L Word in its fifth season and featured in a breast cancer docu-drama titled 1 a Minute. Her personal life has seen some significant changes with two divorces and coming out as a lesbian in 2009.
