Joseph Wright, born on 25 August 1972, is an acclaimed English film director with a filmography that includes adaptations such as Pride & Prejudice (2005), Atonement (2007), Anna Karenina (2012), and Cyrano (2021). Known for his distinctive aesthetic and emotional style, Wright has also directed the action thriller Hanna (2011), the Peter Pan origin story Pan (2015), and the critically lauded Darkest Hour (2017).

From a young age, Wright displayed interest in the arts and had a penchant for film-making. His career began in earnest at his parents’ puppet theatre, the Little Angel Theatre in Islington, which laid a solid foundation for his future endeavors. He received critical acclaim for his first short film, which bolstered his career and enabled him to direct several serials throughout the early 2000s. Wright's successful transition to feature films was marked by his critically approved adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. He won a BAFTA award for best newcomer for Pride & Prejudice and was the youngest director to have a film open the Venice Film Festival with Atonement.
