Ioan Gruffudd

Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced jɔan ˈɡrɪfɪθ) is a highly talented Welsh-American actor, internationally acclaimed for his impressive roles in film and television series. Commencing his acting journey at a tender age of 13 in the Welsh television film, Austin, he quickly displayed his prowess as a performer. Gruffudd made his mark with his compelling portrayal of Harold Lowe in the timeless classic, Titanic (1997), and further confirmed his acting supremacy playing the iconic Horatio Hornblower in the highly applauded Hornblower series of television films (1998–2003). His dynamic acting range found a new platform in well-remembered roles such as Lancelot in King Arthur (2004), Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic in Fantastic Four (2005), and William Wilberforce in Amazing Grace (2006).

Gruffudd's roots in Aberdare, Wales greatly influenced his upbringing and future career. Born to teacher parents Gillian and Peter Gruffudd on 6 October 1973, he imbibed the strong cultural vibes centered around singing and performing prevalent in Wales, and this exposure served to build his confidence and passion as an actor. While he started with a career in Welsh television, he gradually shifted focus to the bigger stage. Despite his initial contemplation to quit RADA due to limited opportunities, his commitment to the craft bore fruit when he was cast in the 1996 Poldark TV remake. He married Alice Evans in 2007 and shares two daughters together. Post their divorce in 2023, Gruffudd announced his engagement to Bianca Wallace in 2024.
