Georgie Nokes

Robert "Georgie" Nokes was an American child actor who left an indelible mark on classic Hollywood cinema during the 1940s and early 1950s with his cherubic features and distinctive blond hair. Born on October 22, 1936, Nokes began his acting career at a remarkably young age, quickly establishing himself as a talented juvenile performer with a natural screen presence that belied his years. He made his film debut in the psychological thriller Gaslight in 1944, but it was his role as Little Harry in Frank Capra's beloved 1946 Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life that cemented his place in cinematic history and endeared him to generations of viewers. That same remarkably productive year, he appeared in Walt Disney's controversial but culturally significant Song of the South, portraying the character Jake Favers, and also secured a part in William Wyler's Academy Award-winning drama The Best Years of Our Lives, demonstrating his ability to hold his own alongside Hollywood's biggest stars.

Throughout the late 1940s, Nokes became a familiar face in family entertainment, particularly through his work with Monogram Pictures in their comedy series centered on the Latham family, where he brought warmth and authenticity to the role of Georgie. He starred in several installments of this beloved franchise, including Father's Wild Game (1950), Father Makes Good (1950), and Father Takes the Air (1951), consistently delighting audiences with his comedic timing. His filmography also included notable performances such as Robbie Calvin in Shaggy (1948), Tommy in Slippy McGee (1948), and appearances in prestigious productions like State of the Union (1948) alongside Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, as well as The Cowboy and the Indians (1949) with Gene Autry. After retiring from acting following his work in the early 1950s, Nokes lived a private life away from the entertainment industry until his untimely death from cardiomyopathy at his home in Riverside, California, on May 22, 1986, at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy of childhood performances in some of cinema's most enduring classics.
