Gary Alan Sinise (born March 17, 1955) is a multi-talented American actor, director, producer, and musician. His acting career launched with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1983, with key roles in productions like Sam Shepard's 'True West'. Sinise is widely recognized for his portrayal of characters such as George Milton in 'Of Mice and Men', Lt. Dan Taylor in 'Forrest Gump', Ken Mattingly in 'Apollo 13', and Det. Mac Taylor on 'CSI: NY'. Accolades for his film and television work include a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. Beyond his on-screen accomplishments, Sinise has received numerous awards for his extensive involvement in humanitarian work and support for veterans' organizations.
Born in Blue Island, Illinois, Sinise attended Illinois State University and was one of the founders of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 1974. His performances have been highlighted in a number of critically acclaimed films and tv shows. In addition to his acting, he founded the Lt. Dan Band (named after his 'Forrest Gump' character), which performs at military bases globally. Apart from his television and film work, Sinise even served as the host for the Epcot ride 'Mission: SPACE' at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.
