Desmond Dube

Desmond Dube (born 25 January 1969) is a celebrated South African comedian, actor, writer, and producer whose career has spanned over three decades. From his early days performing in the vibrant Johannesburg theatre scene, Dube quickly became known for his dynamic stage presence and sharp comedic timing, earning roles in productions such as Jozi Jozi, Peto, and the musical Street Sisters. His versatility shone through when he tackled the classic Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and he later contributed to industrial theatre projects for major entities like Eskom and the AIDS Show, showcasing his commitment to socially relevant performance art. The iconic "Amaglug‑glug" commercial for SASOL not only made him a household name but also garnered a prestigious Loerie Award for Best Contribution, cementing his status as a cultural touchstone in South Africa.

Beyond advertising, Dube has built an impressive film and television résumé. He appeared in the feature film Inside and the adventure series Tarzan: The Epic Adventures during the late 1990s, followed by roles in The Long Run (2002) and the internationally acclaimed Hotel Rwanda (2004). His portrayal of BK in the television adaptation of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (2008) demonstrated his ability to blend humor with dramatic nuance.
