Barry Robert Pepper is a Canadian-American actor, born on April 4, 1970, and is renowned for his wide range of roles including Private Daniel Jackson in Saving Private Ryan (1998), Corrections Officer Dean Stanton in The Green Mile (1999), and Roger Maris in 61* (2001). He has played Joseph L. Galloway in We Were Soldiers (2002), Sergeant Michael Strank in Flags of Our Fathers (2006), DEA Agent Cooper in Snitch (2013), and Vince in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018). Pepper also portrayed Lucky Ned Pepper in the remake of the western True Grit (2010) and David Keller in Crawl (2019). His powerful performances have brought him three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award nomination. For his unforgettable role as Robert F. Kennedy in the miniseries The Kennedys (2011), he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. He also lent his voice to the character Alex Mercer in the video game Prototype, and Corporal Dunn in the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Pepper was born in Campbell River, British Columbia, the youngest of three boys. His childhood adventures sailing through the South Pacific islands with his family for five years and his education through correspondence courses and public schools in Polynesia moulded his character. After this journey, his family returned to Canada and settled down in Denman Island. He graduated from Georges P. Vanier Secondary School in 1988 and then attended Camosun College, studying marketing and design, thanks to an artistic achievement scholarship. He then moved to Vancouver to study acting, highlighting his four-year stint at Gastown Actors Studio.
