Anson Mount

Anson Adams Mount IV is an accomplished American actor, born on February 25, 1973, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, U.S. Known for his versatile television roles, Mount gained fame for his role as Cullen Bohannon in the AMC western drama series Hell on Wheels, and Jim Steele on the NBC series Conviction (2006). Fans also remember him as the Marvel Comics superhero Black Bolt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) media franchise. He appeared in MCU's Inhumans and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. His portrayal of Captain Christopher 'Chris' Pike in the Star Trek television series, Discovery, Short Treks, and Strange New Worlds, is widely acclaimed.

Early in life, Mount attended Dickson County High School in Dickson, Tennessee, followed by the University of the South, and Columbia University. He also has a significant theatre presence, starring in Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi in 1998 and Robert O'Hara's Mankind at Playwrights Horizons in 2018. In movies, Mount debuted in 2000 with the independent film Tully. He produced and starred in the award-winning independent film Cook County in 2009. Mount continues to contribute to the MCU, reprising his role as Black Bolt in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Besides acting, Mount is an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University, teaching audition techniques for graduate actors. He also writes non-fiction pieces published in various magazines and newspapers.
