The Dragon Spell 2016

In a peaceful realm where Vasyl Virastiuk plays Cyril, the hero who once defeated a dangerous Dragon, life feels calm. The Dragon’s skin hangs in Cyril’s home as a reminder of past battles, and his family enjoys a quiet existence with Nicky, Cyril’s son. Arsen Shavlyuk brings Nicky to life as a boy who dreams of heroism, even though he lacks the raw strength to back those dreams. His playful mischief sometimes rips the Dragon’s skin, forcing Cyril to stitch it back together, while the family’s dynamic shows a mix of affection and teasing. The eldest son Bohdan views Nicky’s aspirations with skepticism, and Nicky’s mother, Maria, often treats him with condescension, creating a gentle but real sense of rivalry at home.

Meanwhile, a prophecy unfolds. The wise grandfather Danylo notices an approaching comet and foresees the blooming of the Fire Flower, a key to power that could threaten the Dragon’s lingering influence if it falls into the wrong hands. Danylo dispatches his clever but boastful apprentice, Eddie, to deliver a message to Cyril. Cyril summons Nicky to stay behind, but the boy slips away with a small calf, eager for a test of courage. From the overheard conversation, Nicky learns that the Dragon’s spirit has not been truly defeated: it possesses the Witch, and with the Dragon’s skin and the fern flower, it could return stronger than before. Eddie urges Nicky to seek the Fire Flower, which grows in the magical land of Divinalia. A misfired spell, however, casts the duo to the wrong place, turning a hopeful mission into a rough-and-tumble misadventure.

In Divinalia, Nicky meets Roksolana, an orphaned girl, and her lively squirrel companion Kamikaze. Roksolana first introduces herself as Rocky, leading to a brief mix-up about her identity, but she soon joins the quest to thwart the Dragon. The Witch senses the newcomers and quickly identifies Nicky as Cyril’s son, sending a troll named Tatya to capture him. The chase separates Nicky and Eddie, and the children must press on on their own toward the Fire Flower, guided by Roksolana’s resolve. Back home, Danylo is busy constructing a helicopter alongside Cyril and the rest of the family, a parallel effort that heightens the story’s sense of teamwork and invention.

The two adventurers face danger as the Witch traps them and conjures ghosts that imitate Cyril and Danylo. Nicky discerns their inauthentic nature, while Roksolana refuses to betray her new friends. A hidden abandoned house reveals a clue that points toward an enchanted lake, which opens a treacherous route to the Fire Flower. A stone guardian tests their bravery and, recognizing their courage, lends them a firefly to illuminate the path to Divinalia’s heart. In a tense moment, the Witch captures Roksolana, only to discover that the girl’s true family identity lies in the Witch herself, now inhabited by the Dragon’s influence. Danylo’s helicopter finally takes off, carrying Cyril, Maria, and Bohdan toward Divinalia to join the fight.

Nicky eventually locates the Fire Flower, but discovers it cannot be surrendered to the Witch. Eddie tries to stand in the Witch’s way, yet she seizes the flower and uses its power to reanimate the Dragon’s form. When the Dragon prepares to unleash fire on the children, a determined rescue arrives: Cyril, Maria, Bohdan, and Danylo rally around Nicky’s family, while the pair of young heroes steal a helicopter to divert the Dragon’s attention. Nicky recalls that his own flame may be the crucial counterblow, and when the Dragon exhales, the Dragon’s misfired flame erupts through the torn seam of its hide, setting the Dragon ablaze and causing a final, explosive defeat.

With the Dragon defeated, Nicky is celebrated as a true hero by his parents, and Eddie’s mastery of magic receives a nod of acknowledgment from Dmytro, who recognizes the value of what Eddie has learned. Roksolana remains in Divinalia with her mother, while Eddie’s spellwork sends Nicky and his family home—though a final misstep leaves Eddie briefly stranded in Divinalia, hinting that adventures may continue for this unlikely trio.
