On Pallavi’s first wedding anniversary, she travels from San Francisco to Los Angeles under the pretext of running errands, unbeknownst to her husband Arun. Her true aim is to reconnect with Karthik, her former lover.

A flashback unfolds: about a year and a half earlier in Chennai, [Pallavi] was a student hoping to capture a dance performance for her family, yet she struggles with the talent she seeks. [Karthik], a young statistics student and an orphan, is supported by his godfather, Duraisamy, the principal of his institution, and dreams of earning a Ph.D. Pallavi spots [Karthik] dancing at a friend’s wedding and asks him to teach her. He agrees, needing the money, and helps Pallavi with dancing and other challenges, including standing up to a bully. The two grow closer and fall in love.

[Pallavi] arranges for [Karthik] to stay in her family’s penthouse, where he tutors her and starts earning money. As Pallavi’s family begins pressuring for marriage alliances, she asks [Karthik] to elope with her, and he agrees—but a chance encounter with Pallavi’s father makes him rethink. Realizing he isn’t yet settled, [Karthik] asks Pallavi to let him pursue a Ph.D. in New Delhi. Pallavi tearfully agrees. In the months that follow, Pallavi drifts away from Karthik, ignoring his messages, as her family arranges her marriage to [Arun]. A year later, Prof. Duraisamy informs Pallavi that [Karthik] has slipped into depression and alcoholism, and could lose his job in Los Angeles; moved by guilt and responsibility, Pallavi travels to meet him.

In Los Angeles, Pallavi tells [Karthik] that she is happily married and has no desire to reunite. He stubbornly disagrees, insisting that she still loves him. Back in San Francisco, Pallavi reveals to [Arun] the encounter and proposes inviting [Karthik] to stay for ten days to prove her happiness. [Karthik] agrees, but only on the condition that if he cannot see true love between Pallavi and Arun, she must leave with him. Pallavi reluctantly accepts.

[Duraisamy]’s involvement compounds the tension as [Karthik]’s presence stirs resentment among Arun’s colleagues and triggers wary reactions from some, while others secretly warm to him. The situation intensifies when Pallavi’s father and his son-in-law, Omkar, unexpectedly visit San Francisco. [Karthik] is introduced as Arun’s old classmate and promises to keep his real reason hidden. Pallavi’s father, learning from Pallavi’s friend Nisha about her past relationship, suspects she is unhappy and travels to find her former lover to help if she wants.

As events unfold, [Karthik] quietly helps Pallavi’s father and Omkar uncover the truth. When Nisha is pressed, she fabricates a story claiming Pallavi’s lover is married. Pallavi reassures her father that she is content. A trip to Santa Monica for Arun’s business meeting reveals Arun’s infidelity when Pallavi sees him embrace another woman. Pallavi’s father also learns of [Karthik] through a phone call involving Arun’s father and Nisha.

Confrontations follow: Pallavi confronts Arun, who lies again and confirms his infidelity. She confides in [Karthik], who believes she now wants to be with him. Yet when Pallavi’s father reveals his wish for Pallavi to marry him, [Karthik] discloses Arun’s backstory—how Arun’s first MBA friend, Caroline, proposed to him, and how he rejected her, leading to Caroline’s drug addiction and a suicide attempt that filled him with guilt. This guilt had compelled him to allow Pallavi to call [Karthik], hoping he would not end up like Caroline.

Realizing Pallavi should stay with Arun, [Karthik] stages a moment that makes himself look negative to Pallavi, nudging her to recognize Arun’s honesty. Arun prepares to leave, but Pallavi stops him. They work through their misunderstandings and reaffirm their love. As they embrace, [Karthik] walks away, heartbroken, choosing to let them be, even as his own future remains uncertain.
