Resident Evil: Damnation 2012

In 2011, Leon S. Kennedy, a DSO operative, infiltrates the Eastern Slav Republic—a former Soviet state torn apart by civil war and whispers of Bio-Organic Weapons, or BOWs. He ignores the government’s orders to fall back, convinced that the truth behind the conflict must be uncovered from within. Soon, he encounters a contact who has already been attacked and killed by a fearsome BOW known as a Licker. A second Licker appears, but this one seems to spare him, as if it’s moving under the control of a mysterious, unseen puppeteer.

Leon is knocked unconscious and wakes to find himself bound to a chair in a rebel camp, surrounded by rough-hewn fighters. He’s confronted by a trio who name the leadership and danger of the insurgent faction: JD, the group’s tough young fighter; Alexander “Sasha” Kozachenko, better known as Buddy, a former teacher whose hatred for the government runs deep; and the elderly Ataman, Ivan Judanovich. The room hums with tension as past loyalties clash with a present in which the plague of Las Plagas has begun to reshape loyalties and destinies.

Across town, the political chessboard tightens. President Svetlana Belikova meets Ada Wong, who is undercover as an agent of the BSAA. Ada explains a terrifying science—humans infected with the “dominant” Las Plagas parasite form a fragile, master-slave bond with lesser BOWs infected by the Progenitor-virus. The Lickers act as a shocking bridge between parasite and creature, and Ada hints that she’s there to secure a Las Plagas sample for her masters. Ada’s presence is layered—she is embodied by the voice of Courtenay Taylor and motion-captured by Jolene Andersen—two actors whose performances frame the danger around Las Plagas from different angles.

Back in the rebel enclave, Leon fights to break free, and the mission’s tempo escalates quickly. He tries to warn the troops about the infection spreading among their ranks, but Buddy’s rage pushes the situation toward a violent crossroads. The elder Ivan is killed after succumbing to the Las Plagas parasite, and Buddy delivers mercy in a grim moment that reveals how personal grief has become a driving force for the rebellion. Buddy then reunites with JD, just as Plaga hosts (Ganados) begin to tear into the camp, forcing Leon and the rebels to flee toward a fragile sanctuary: a church that might hold the key to stopping a city-wide collapse.

Inside the church, the rebel who freed him urges Leon to confront Buddy, whose hatred for the government has spiraled out of control after the government’s bombing of a school claimed his fiancée and many students’ lives. Leon encounters Ada again, and she admits a singular goal: to obtain a Las Plagas sample. She leaves him with a stark warning about an imminent bombing that could erase the last traces of the city’s resistance. Reunited with the rebels, Leon returns to the church only to find it under siege by the infected, who brutally kill the other rebels and infect JD.

Facing an impossible choice, Leon must confront Buddy, who resists giving up Las Plagas. A brutal collision of loyalties, science, and survival unfolds as the soldiers launch military jets and heavy armor to bomb the church, forcing a desperate escape back to the surface. The layers of deception deepen when Svetlana issues an international arrest warrant for Ada. Ada is captured in a tense hand-to-hand confrontation, but Svetlana’s grip tightens as Leon and Ada cross paths again in a bunker—close to the hive control that could decide the fate of the city.

Ada releases a smoke screen to cover her own escape as Leon fights his way through waves of soldiers. Buddy arrives with Lickers summoned as weapons of war, and Svetlana counters with a new threat: Tyrants. A long, brutal battle follows, pushing Leon, Buddy, and the infected through the ruin of the city and back toward the surface. The final clash with the Tyrants is decided by a daring tank assault, and Svetlana—facing a looming joint Russian-American invasion—resigns, vanishing from the public eye as the political landscape reshapes itself.

In the aftermath, Buddy asks Leon to end his suffering as Las Plagas tightens its grip. Leon refuses, arguing that Buddy should live to remember those who died, and he shoots Buddy’s spine to sever the parasite’s control. The mission concludes with a somber briefing: Leon speaks with Hunnigan about what they faced, while Ada contemplates the Las Plagas sample she retrieved and the implications of surrender or seizure. Ada’s fate remains ambiguous, leaving open the possibility of future consequences in her hands.

A mid-credits scene lingers on the resilience of the human spirit: Buddy, alive but confined to a wheelchair, pushes himself up a hill toward a school. Children rush toward the building, and the scene quietly signals that, even after tragedy and betrayal, life and teaching can begin anew.
