Recep Ivedik is an unemployed man navigating life in present-day Turkey, where a run-in with a police officer over harassment ends with a surprising pass. On his way home, he discovers a hotel owner’s wallet and later spots the same man, Muhsin Basaran, on television offering advice. Determined to return the wallet as a sign of respect, he sets off on a road trip that becomes a string of misadventures and unexpected lessons.

Along the journey, he lends a hand to young women dealing with car trouble, dives into the local dance scene, and ultimately finds himself hitchhiking with a group of eccentric rock musicians after his own car breaks down. In a haze of loosened nerves and loud laughter, he stumbles into a restaurant where a challenge for a car ride is issued, and somehow he comes out on top. A grateful truck driver offers him a lift, only for Recep to realize the driver’s sexual orientation, which unsettles him, yet he continues on the road until the driver’s advances push him to leave.

Recep keeps hitchhiking and weaving through the trip until he returns the wallet to Basaran at a hotel, and then suddenly finds himself drawn to his childhood love, Sibel. The hotel life proves unpredictable. He embarrassingly locks himself out of his room wearing only a bath towel, much to the discomfort of the hotel manager, Erim. Once back inside, he shares a drink with the receptionist, and Erim assigns the staff to keep a watchful eye on him to prevent further trouble.

The next morning brings chaos as Recep accidentally knees Sibel into a pool, and she doesn’t recognize him at first glance. He purchases summer clothes in a bid to join Sibel’s volleyball game, but she refuses him. Undeterred, he joins the opposing team and helps them clinch a victory, yet she rejects the trophy he offers. At a bustling buffet, he overindulges, earning the ire of Erim, and his weight becomes a sore subject that drives him away.

Trying to impress, Recep asks Erim to let him join an aerobics class, only to be fitted with a pink outfit that becomes a running joke. He dives in anyway, awkwardly performing in a way that unsettles Sibel and amuses Erim. A visiting aquatic instructor reminds them of an upcoming scuba class, and Recep enrolls, where his irreverent antics rile up the instructor. When the group heads toward the dive, Recep slips away to an island where an adult film is being shot, disrupting the set and hurling insults at the director before returning to the hotel.

Recep’s mood swings into tension as he admonishes Sibel and her mother for not seeking him out; Sibel reveals her mother’s illness, triggering memories of Recep’s grandmother’s passing. He offers a conch to Sibel, insults her mother, and leaves, while it becomes clear that Sibel is starting to develop genuine feelings for him.

Back at the hotel, Recep tries to coax the receptionist to accompany him to the disco, but is turned down. He goes alone and lands at a scene where he confronts Sibel and another man in a dance-off, dazzling the crowd with his moves and earning a celebratory drink as a prize. The following morning, a hungover Recep is found by Sibel’s mother, who scolds him as Sibel slips away with another man to the spa.

Determined to win her over, Recep tailors a plan and follows them to the massage parlor, where a mix-up with rooms leads to a comedic and embarrassing encounter with a different client instead of Sibel. Realizing the confusion only after, he flees the scene as Sibel exits, unaware of the mix-up.

A photographer later approaches Recep for a photo, and he flips between a proud pose and a rude one, much to Sibel’s amusement. She invites him to a hotel comedy event, which he eagerly attends. On stage, he becomes a participant in a partner game with the person who had been his massage client, and the weight of that partner’s chair collapses, producing a humiliating moment in front of the audience that hints at deeper insecurities.

Recep is later seen drinking from a display fountain, drawing Erim’s ire, who chastises him for his conduct and the earlier humiliation. Recep warns Erim that if he tries to eject him again, the hotel will fall apart under the weight of his trucker friends. The truckers soon arrive, threatening to back up that warning, leaving Erim unsure how to intervene.

The beach becomes a turning point as Sibel calls off her engagement, confessing her new feelings for Recep, while her mother intervenes in the ensuing argument. Recep comforts Sibel, but a dramatic moment arrives when her mother is endangered by a horse; he races to help, though she misreads his intent and accuses him of assault. Exhausted, Recep collapses on a floating tube connected to a speedboat, which suddenly accelerates and throws him into the ocean, where he curses the boat from afar.

In the hotel infirmary, Sibel and her mother quarrel again about her love life, while Recep chats with the receptionist and spots Sibel on the beach. She reveals she is engaged and cannot reciprocate, leaving him heartbroken. He finally decides to leave the hotel, instructing the receptionist to deliver a bag of marbles to Sibel—an act whose meaning remains mysterious at first but carries with it a sense of shared history.

As he parts ways, Erim chews out the receptionist, leading to his dismissal. Yet when he sees Sibel and her mother departing, he remembers the marbles and races to the airport to hand them over. When Sibel examines the marbles, she realizes they are from their childhood and slowly understands that Recep was her long-lost childhood love, ending the journey with a revelation that ties their fates together.
