These beings reproduce parthenogenically, with one dragon capable of spawning many daughters, and their power is amplified by a mysterious group called the Vril, an Aryan coven of witches who are psychically bound to the dragons and can command them at will. This dark alliance aims to tilt the balance of air superiority in the North African campaigns.

In 1942, Dr. Heinrich Gudrun Osman Soykut, a Nazi cryptozoologist in charge of the dragon-breeding program code-named “Skyward,” arrives with his brood. The adult dragons and the vrill are envisioned as a force multiplier to support Germany’s Afrika Korps under Field Marshal Erwin Rommel Robert Pike Daniel. The shadowy project seeks to shift the skies in favor of the Axis, letting them strike at Allied supply lines with terrifying speed and ferocity.

To counter this existential threat, a high-stakes plan is hatched by a general who assigns a squadron of elite fighters—an informal unit known as the Ghost Squadron. Led by Lieutenant John Robbins Scott Martin, the only survivor from the first encounter with the dragons, the Ghost Squadron must operate outside official channels to blunt the dragon menace. Their North American P-51 Mustangs take to the skies, drawing the dragons into a deadly trap tangled with flak fire and daring aerial maneuvers. In the opening clash, two dragons fall, a pilot is killed after one last, desperate strike, and Robbins and his comrades race to the crash site to learn more, only to be captured by German troops and brought before Rommel himself.

Rommel, a seasoned strategist who harbors doubts about Gudrun’s methods and the vrill’s control, explains a devastating piece of history: occasionally a parthenogenic female dragon will lay a male hatchling, a creature of immense power whose appearance signals the possible end of civilizations. He believes such an egg sits hidden within an incubator complex beneath a mountain, and he reveals that an inside man could open an air vent directly into that incubator. The Allied plan now hinges on timing: a raid by air and a covert SAS ground team, accompanied by a B-17 Flying Fortress that General Anderson Harwood Gordon obtains to punch through the defenses and destroy the eggs.

The mission unfolds with tense precision as the Ghost Squadron shields the bomber long enough for a direct strike on the incubator. Dagmar Pernille Trojgaard, a vrill-witch who has infiltrated the British ranks, acts as the inside link, opening the facility’s vent to allow the assault. Gudrun unleashes Asuzaka, a colossal male dragon, in a bid to crush the Allied effort, but the monstrous creature is incinerated in the cataclysm of fire and steel. In the aerial ballet that follows, only Lt. Arthur Marks [Stephen Suitts] remains unscathed as pilots perform sacrificial maneuvers—ramming dragons to halt their advance and buy critical seconds for the Fortress to reach the mountain stronghold.

What follows is a tense culmination: a rescue and medical regrouping as the SAS ground party locates Robbins and returns him to the headquarters hospital, where nurse Rachel McKee [Stephanie Beran] tends to his wounds. With the incubator destroyed, the eggs annihilated, and the adult dragons eliminated, the dragon threat is neutralized. The Allied forces, having faced a nightmare mixture of myth and machine, prepare to return to conventional weaponry and conventional war.

In the end, the skies clear of the dragon terror, and the war resumes along more familiar lines.
