Later, Preetham travels with his mother to Madikeri in Coorg, where he crosses paths with a determined, protective man named Jaanu who has pledged to keep Nandini out of any relationship. Jaanu’s pursuit leads to a confrontation where Preetham ends up clashing with Jaanu and his gang, driven by a mix of hurt pride and a growing, stubborn resolve to win Nandini’s heart. The escalation of conflict adds a layer of danger, but it also deepens the bond simmering between the two young people.

In Madikeri, a fortuitous reunion occurs when Preetham makes his feelings clear and offers to return Nandini’s missing watch. She, however, is already engaged, and she gently but firmly rejects his plea. Yet his vow remains: if they meet again, he intends to marry her. In that same town, he learns that Nandini’s father, Col. Subbaiah, is a nearly deaf host with a hard-won edge of wisdom, and he senses the worry in Nandini’s mother as the wedding date—set for soon—looms closer. This awareness nudges Preetham toward a painful decision: if the match isn’t with Nandini, perhaps the best path is to respect her parents’ choice and withdraw. After he discards the watch in despair, Nandini calls, taunting him back into the chase. He finds the watch again and, in a small, almost childlike moment, spots a rabbit he names Devadas and carries both along as a token of his errant, hopeful love.

With time running out and Nandini’s friends from Mumbai due for the wedding, Preetham escorts her to the railway station. A five-hour train delay becomes an unexpected pause that intensifies their quiet connection. They slip away to a nearby hill-temple, and on the return journey, the rain turns their world intimate. An elderly couple offers shelter in a humble hut, and the mood shifts from teasing to earnest confession. In a moment of intoxicated honesty, Preetham, clutching a pair of toddy bottles, withdraws to drink, and it’s there, in the rain, that he confesses in a roundabout way that he should stay away to remain a decent man—rather than declare or act on his love. Nandini seems to understand, and she steps closer, offering an umbrella as she urges him to reveal his true feelings. She finally tells him she loves him, and they share a fragile, decisive moment at the edge of a waterfall where their emotions surge.

The next phase centers on a selfless dilemma. Preetham arranges a morning jog with Col. Subbaiah to discuss a future for Nandini, only to learn that the elderly father’s heart is fragile and he wishes only to see Nandini married to Gautam, an army officer who had once saved his life. This revelation tests Preetham’s resolve, because he recognizes the real fear of Nandini’s mother—that her daughter might be unhappy if forced to marry someone else. Out of respect and affection, Preetham chooses to honor the parents’ wish, at least in the whisper of a plan, and decides to let Gautam become the groom. That night, a bar becomes the stage for a dramatic shift. Gautam arrives, and the atmosphere tightens as Jaanu appears again, attempting to kill Gautam. Preetham steps in, saving him and persuading Jaanu that Gautam is the right choice for Nandini. The next day, Gautam’s car breaks down just as a wedding is near, and Preetham brings Gautam to the ceremony at the last possible moment. He declines to attend the celebration himself and, when Gautam asks for the heart-shaped watch as a memento, Preetham cannot part with it. The search for Preetham continues, and only his mother understands the true depth of his love, though she keeps her fears tightly guarded.

The wedding proceeds under a Kodava-style arch, with the world accepting the match even as Preetham steps away, his heart heavy and hopeful in a way that doesn’t require a spoken farewell. As the new couple’s vows echo, Preetham encounters Devadas the rabbit once more, a final, poignant companion on a road that bends away from happiness toward a lifetime of memory. He drives toward Bangalore, sharing the story of his unfulfilled dream with Devadas, and it’s only then that he realizes Devadas is gone. The film closes with Preetham lay­ing Devadas to rest, a quiet, somber end that keeps a faithful flame alive in his heart.
