The Munsters are a family of monster-like beings navigating life with a blend of warmth, oddity, and a pinch of gothic charm. Herman resembles Frankenstein’s Monster, with visible scars and a heart that is the only remaining piece of his original body; Lily is a vampire, as is her father known as Grandpa. The family moves to 1313 Mockingbird Lane after Eddie attacks his Wildlife Explorers scout troop in werewolf form, with Eddie believing it was a bear attack. Grandpa and Marilyn both want to tell Eddie about his true nature, but Herman and Lily prefer to wait. Eddie fears there is something inherently wrong with him and worries about becoming a carnivorous monster like his mother and grandfather.

Meanwhile, Herman’s heart is failing because he loves his family so fiercely and longs for a replacement. Grandpa hatches a plan to secure a heart for Herman and to satisfy his own bloodlust. He first plots to kill their new neighbor, but Herman talks him out of it. Then the perfect candidate arrives: Scoutmaster Steve, a widower and Eddie’s new boy scout troop leader; Steve has fallen for Lily and seems to love her just as Herman does.

Grandpa invites Steve over to dinner with the intention of killing him. Despite the efforts of Herman, Lily, and Marilyn to stop him, Steve dies when Grandpa causes him to fall down the stairs. After this, Herman and Lily finally tell Eddie about his condition, and Eddie nervously accepts what he is.

To keep Eddie safe during his transformations, the family adopts a pet dragon named Spot to watch over him, adding a new and fantastical element to their already extraordinary home life.
