Josutty [Dileep] is the son of Joseph [Hareesh Peradi] and Soshamma [Vijayakumari], growing up in a middle-class traditional Christian farmer family in Kattappana, Idukki. From a young age he imagines a life of service and spirituality, dreaming of becoming a priest, but life takes a different path. As a child he forms a deep bond with his neighbor and childhood friend Jessy [Rachana Narayanankutty], and that affection colors his early choices. Josutty is a sixth standard dropout from a financially limited background, a fact that weighs heavy when Jessy’s father refuses to bless their union. Jessy is ready to stand against her father and marry Josutty, yet Josutty worries about bringing hardship to both families, and in the end, Jessy marries and moves on.

With debt pressing on the family and a sister to marry off, Josutty follows the advice of friends and relatives and agrees to marry Rose [Jyothi Krishna], a divorcée nurse living in New Zealand. The arrangement is pragmatic, but it sets Josutty on a journey far from his familiar roots. After the wedding, he travels to Rotorua in New Zealand to join his wife, and the fresh start gradually exposes him to a difficult reality. Rose’s bipolar behavior leaves him bewildered, and he soon learns that she has been pursuing an extramarital life with her former boyfriend. This revelation jolts him and forces a reckoning with beliefs he trusted for so long.

In the wake of those discoveries, Josutty comes to see himself in a new light—he calls himself a “total square,” realizing that many of the life lessons he clung to were not as solid as he thought. He resolves to change his fortunes and secure a future, drawing on the help of friends like Priya and Devassy to run a restaurant. Priya [Renjini Rupesh] becomes a significant presence, and Devassy [Chembil Ashokan] lends practical support as Josutty rebuilds his life in a country miles away from his childhood home. Over the next nine years in New Zealand, Josutty’s ambitions and emotions evolve as he grapples with money, love, and the pull of his past.

Josutty’s heart is pulled in two directions: he develops feelings for Priya, and he makes a bold proposal. Yet Priya reveals a painful truth—she is still married to a man who cannot leave her due to his own realities, a situation that complicates any chance of a fresh start together.
