In 2065, a scientist invents a time machine and, to prove its power, sends it back to 2015 with the instruction to return within forty seconds. Yet the device never comes back, leaving the scientist to wonder if the experiment has truly worked.

The moment the machine appears in 2015, it is witnessed by three people: a driven but struggling entrepreneur named Elango, who is fighting to get his ideas heard while keeping a fragile relationship with his wealthy girlfriend, Anu; Arumugam, his loyal but duplicitous best friend who makes a living as a fake astrologer; and Giridhara Parthasarathy, an inventor who repairs home appliances. The trio experiences a sudden accident that brings them face-to-face with the mysterious device. Parthasarathy initially plans to keep the machine for himself, but a shock leaves him in a coma, and Elango and Arumugam seize the opportunity to take it for their own ends.

With the machine in hand, the two con artists begin testing its possibilities. They use it to bolster Arumugam’s astrology practice, traveling briefly into the past to uncover things people have misplaced and then presenting them as miraculous “revelations.” The scheme works, feeding Arumugam’s reputation and drawing in clients who believe in his supposedly clairvoyant abilities. The ruse gives Elango a taste of success, and he soon devises a larger plan: he travels to the future to gather stock-market results and publicly predicts them in front of the industrialist Rajarathinam’s board, a bold move that finally earns the approval of Anu’s powerful father.

Soon enough, the couple’s wedding looks set, and the path to a bright future seems clear—at least on the surface. But trouble arrives when an attempted assassination of Rajarathinam is foiled not by careful planning, but by a reckless manipulation of time. Kuzhandaivelu, a feared gangster who has been targeting Rajarathinam, is outraged by the failed kill and the audacious interference by the two time-travelers. In the present, Kuzhandaivelu makes it his business to eliminate not only Rajarathinam but also Elango and Arumugam, who inadvertently stepped into his path during their past-hopping.

The reality of their tampering begins to unravel. In an effort to fix things, the pair heads back to the past to undo their mistake, but Kuzhandaivelu fires during a confrontation and injures the time machine, damaging it beyond easy repair. Desperate, they find Parthasarathy awake from his coma, but the inventor does not remember them. He works to repair the machine, though the rebuilt device can only shuttle the user to a fixed moment in the past—the moment when Kuzhandaivelu damaged it. There is no way to return to the future, forcing the duo to rethink their plan.

As the pursuit escalates, Kuzhandaivelu spots them at a mall and open-fires, killing Anu. Grief and desperation push Elango to try one last gambit: use the time machine to travel to the past and kill Kuzhandaivelu, hoping to restore Anu’s life. But the pursuit continues, and a violent struggle leads all three—Elango, Arumugam, and Kuzhandaivelu—into the time machine, hurtling them into the past once again. Kuzhandaivelu destroys the machine in the ensuing chaos, yet Elango manages to outsmart him by getting Kuzhandaivelu to shoot his own past self, ensuring both versions die.

With the immediate danger behind them, Elango and Arumugam realize their earlier acts created the timeline they now inhabit. They deliberately resist the urge to uncover or claim the machine, effectively erasing their role in the accident involving Parthasarathy. In the new timeline, two months pass and Elango awakens to a morning that starts with a wedding—he is about to marry Anu, but his memories of the night’s events have faded. He discovers that, in this version of events, he found a job and impressed Rajarathinam with a business idea, leading to his marriage with Anu. Arumugam, too, is content in his own life, completely unaware of the past two months’ upheaval.

Parthasarathy is seen again, but he does not recognize Elango or Arumugam, having never met them in this altered reality. Kuzhandaivelu is dead in this timeline, and the time machine remains unseen by anyone, as if it never existed at all. The scientist behind the original invention is faced with the quiet triumph of a device that, in the end, did not alter the future he believed he could shape. The machine’s first voyage to the past leads to a quiet, almost banal present where Elango and Arumugam live ordinary lives, their memories of the night erased, and their futures secure in the absence of any time-travel consequences.

In the final frame, the device that sparked such upheaval never resurfaces, returning to 2065 as if it had always belonged there, and the scientist quietly celebrates the success of a machine that rewrote nothing—except the lives of those who dared to bend time.
