They glide through the market’s lanes with easy camaraderie, teasing one another and stealing glances at the schoolgirls who pass by, enjoying a carefree rhythm of life that seems to have no immediate plan for the future. Their world feels uncomplicated until they cross paths with Aachi, the benevolent shopkeeper who treats them like sons and becomes a steady, if unofficial, guardian figure in their lives. Into this close-knit circle, they welcome Vanmathi, known as ATM, and she helps them connect with Yamini, Aachi’s daughter. The four boys, Vanmathi, and Yamini form a loose-knit circle of friends who fill their days with shared moments and small adventures, making the market feel like a large, chaotic family.

Everything changes when Aachi confronts them with a blunt truth: without an identity, their lives will remain defined by others’ terms. Her words land with the weight of a challenge, nudging them to think about what kind of life they want to lead and how they might earn respect beyond being seen as mere laborers. Inspired by this shift, they hatch a bold plan to carve out a space of their own in the market. Naidu, a wealthy and influential figure who controls many market operations, approves their idea by offering them an old godown with the promise of future rent—provided they prove themselves. Soon the four friends transform the space into a bustling, beloved hub, and the mess becomes an instant sensation. It brings money, recognition, and a newfound sense of identity as the boys take ownership of something that belongs to them.

But the mood shifts when Naidu’s cousin Mayil begins using the mess for late-night revelry. At first, the boys tolerate him out of respect for Naidu, but Mayil’s behavior spirals into abuse. One night, he assaults a woman inside the space, and Sithappa, outraged, orders him to leave. Mayil responds with violence, beating Sithappa and throwing him out. The others discover the mess in disarray the next day, with Mayil still inside, intoxicated and careless. The brothers confront him and push him out, only to be met with Mayil’s continued aggression. They retaliate, overpower him, and force him to retreat. Mayil leaves in anger, and Naidu learns of the incident with mounting fury.

Aachi tries to smooth things over by visiting Naidu and apologizing, but Naidu remains unmoved and holds her hostage until the boys are punished. He dispatches a crew along with Mayil to attack the boys in the marketplace, forcing them to endure a public beating. The clashes escalate, and when Mayil attempts to assault Yamini and Vanmathi, the boys fight back with a determined resolve. Using makeshift weapons found in the market, they drive the intruders away, but Naidu’s anger only deepens. He vows revenge and devises a plan to break the boys apart, sending them to different corners of the country to sever their unity.

Despite the separation, Vanmathi helps reunite the group, and together they decide to reclaim their identity by returning to the market and rebuilding what they had started. They reopen the mess, surprising Naidu, and a tense standoff seems imminent until a local cop intervenes, offering a window for them to regroup. They shave his hair, then paste a coin on his head as a grim emblem that he is figuratively “dead” to the market’s respect. The next morning, Naidu discovers the act, infuriating him further. He rushes to the mess, locking the doors from inside, intent on killing the boys who dared to challenge him. The four friends, ready for the final stand, overpower Naidu and tie him to a post. They strip him naked, threatening to open the doors and expose him to the public gaze. Naidu pleads for mercy, but the boys stay firm, telling him that true identity is earned through conduct and accountability. In a turn of reconciliation, Naidu experiences a profound shift—guilt replaces arrogance, and he acknowledges the boys’ belief that identity matters more than power.

With Naidu’s transformation and forgiveness in place, the four friends continue to run the mess, their lives now anchored in a shared sense of purpose and dignity.
