An arranged marriage soon ties Mayandi and Solaiyamma together, yet Solaiyamma remains frightened by the intensity she perceives in him. One night, Mayandi returns home drunk, and what follows is a brutal act as he molests and rapes Solaiyamma, shattering the fragile trust between them. The community struggles to process this act while the couple’s future hangs in the balance.

Months later, Solaiyamma discovers she is pregnant, leaving both of them grappling with a difficult future. Their adopted mother Ponnuthayi Ponnuthayi steps in to mediate and helps bring them back toward some form of reconciliation. Tragically, Solaiyamma dies after giving birth, leaving Kasthuri to raise the newborn on her own. The loss intensifies the sense that life in the village is built on fragile, hard-won compromises.

Kasthuri faces the heavy responsibility of the child while Mayandi contemplates a way to secure a stable family life for the baby. He believes Kasthuri could be the ideal mother for his child, even as Kasthuri’s mother, Seeniamma Janaki, refuses, convinced that Mayandi bears responsibility for Solaiyamma’s death. The powerful landlord Pannaiyar, Goundamani, pushes the families toward a match that would bind Kasthuri to Murugesan, intensifying the pressure to choose sides. Kasthuri makes it clear she can only be with Murugesan, and Mayandi decides to take action to arrange their marriage against Pannaiyar’s wishes.

In the end, Mayandi succeeds in bringing Murugesan and Kasthuri together, standing up to Pannaiyar and reshaping the family dynamics that have long governed their lives.
