García, Bruce Ramsay, has just arrived at a scientific camp in Bulgary where researchers and military personnel study the Black Sea, which has recently disappeared. He fears the event could spark religious upheaval. As soon as he identifies himself, a colossal earthquake opens an abyss, forcing everyone to scramble for a way out and leaving the camp in chaos.

In New York, Sam Lovell, Jerry Wasserman, an editor, dispatches a proofreader, Eric Fox, A.J. Buckley, to retrieve the last manuscript from the enigmatic Rupert Crane. Eric is uneasy about the errand, but the promise of payment keeps him moving. At the same time, Brooke Calvin, Jewel Staite, explains to visitors that Maya end‑of‑days prophecies are myths and that current science has no reason to endorse such warnings, though she concedes there’s a danger worth considering.

Raven, Roseanne Supernault, debates with her grandfather John, Gordon Tootoosis, about listening to visions and honoring Sacred lands. Meanwhile, Fox arrives at a café to meet Crane, and a waitress hands him Crane’s last manuscript. As Fox tries to brief his editor on what he’s found, New York is suddenly torn apart by another series of devastating earthquakes.

The General, Alan Dale, listens to scientists describe how the universe’s equator might be realigning with the Earth, intensifying seismic activity and bringing Rupert Crane’s name back into the conversation. Fox tunes in to a TV news bulletin delivered by a newscaster, Kate Gajdosik, reporting on New York’s disaster. He decides to seek out Crane in person. When he arrives at Crane’s home, he discovers that Crane has committed suicide, and a chalkboard in the room is covered with strange writings. Touching a smooth black marble artifact, Fox experiences a flood of futuristic visions and collapses.

Crane had contacted Brooke, telling her she would need Crane’s help. Brooke arrives to Crane’s place to find Fox there, and the two exchange tense words: Brooke even points a gun at Fox, who warns that he has seen her in one of his visions. A videotape marked with the name “Eric and Brooke” appears, and Crane insists there is no manuscript. He claims the mysterious stick belongs to Eric by birthright, and the visions continue to haunt them, including warnings about a painted wall. Realizing they’re in danger, Eric convinces Brooke to hide with him. They fear the arrival of federal agents, including a man named Jennings, who immediately opens fire. A quick-thinking escape is sparked when Eric steps on a white painted stone and triggers an explosion that buys them a chance to run.

The pair flee into a forest by a lake, while Crane urges Fox to use the artifact sparingly. They set up a temporary camp with a tent and tools, and a map points toward a car and a possible link to the Moai figures. Across town, federal agents keep searching for a non-existent manuscript, blaming Brooke and Eric for Crane’s death. The General complains that science offers no clear explanation and orders Jennings to capture the fugitives, underscoring that Fox must stay alive.

As the visions intensify, Eric touches the artifact again and glimpses a future where the north of Canada separates from the rest of the land. Brooke phones Dennis, Matthew Kevin Anderson, who reports that Italy has fallen beneath the sea, and she sends him a photo of the North American mural that aligns with Eric’s vision. Dennis explains that an Indigenous cave drawing matches the images, hinting that an ancient tribe may be involved. Raven and John uncover a cave that mirrors Eric’s visions, and John explains that Orion’s constellation will somehow save the Earth. They also reveal seven Moai-like statues and suggest a second set of seven must be hidden nearby to avert the danger.

Agent Henning, Rick Ravanello, arrives and opens fire, but John uses Raven’s shotgun to defend himself. Fox urges Henning’s attention back to the sacred stick, insisting it is the key to salvation. In the ensuing confrontation, John is shot by Henning, while Raven retrieves the gun and Brooke fires, giving Eric a clear chance to kill Henning. Raven stays by John’s side; he’s badly wounded but still alive. As another earthquake shakes the forest, John urges Eric and Brooke to run, while Fox and Brooke press forward toward the clues.

Fox reopens the stick’s mystery, and the search for the seven statues resumes. The pain of locating them grows as Brooke finally chooses to remove the stick from its resting place to prevent catastrophe, while Eric senses a forthcoming help from a federal ally. García, pursuing them, learns that Henning is dead and that there was no manuscript at all. He informs his superior, the General, about the stick’s existence, prompting a plan to report to the president and to leverage the artifact for control.

The General asserts a claim to the stick’s power, arguing that neither Eric Fox nor Rupert Crane has a rightful claim to its use. García resists and shoots the General, who attempts to wield the stick anyway. Eric hurls the General into a chasm, seizing the stick himself and placing it in its proper position. The released energy collapses the threat and awakens the seven Moai figures, which radiate power and ultimately repel the approaching black hole.

Despite the danger, García survives, though wounded. The President of the United States later declares that the earthquakes will fade and calls for a global rebuilding effort. The world begins to look toward restoration, hopeful that the extraordinary sequence of events has ended—at least for now.
