Nearly New Year’s Eve, the forest buzzes with decorations for the Chinese New Year, as animals hustle to hang bright lanterns and festive banners. In the midst of this cheerful rush, Vick receives a call from his parents, a reminder that home feels just out of reach while he scrambles to earn enough money before the holiday arrives.

Desperate to bring in funds for his boss, Mr. Li, Vick tries to cut down some old trees, hoping to complete the task quickly. But the forest’s inhabitants—led by Briar and Bramble, along with the others—keep foiling his plans, showing cooperation and concern for the trees and the wildlife that live there. The tension between work and home weighs heavily on Vick, and the bears’ interference makes his situation feel even more tangled, as if the forest itself is nudging him toward a softer path rather than a dangerous deadline.

Seeing how much home means to him, the forest crew decides to help in a surprising way: they repurpose the broken logging machine into a makeshift vehicle, a rough-and-ready ride designed to carry Vick back toward his wintertime sanctuary. Tiki and Babu secretly sneak onto the improvised contraption, adding a hint of mischief to an already fraught plan. The bears—still aiming to keep Vick from harming more trees—coax him toward this risky but hopeful journey.

As the makeshift caravan heads toward the railway, Vick wakes to realize the bears might be steering him away from a direct path home, fueling his fear that they intend to ship him off somewhere else to prevent more logging. He darts toward the railway station, only to be turned away by a guard who won’t admit him without a ticket. The bears quietly stage a clever workaround, helping him slip into the station while they stay behind, a ruse that buys just enough time for a daring escape.

When the train arrives, Vick attempts to sneak into the luggage car, but guards catch him. In a dramatic turn, the bears shed their human disguises and create a distraction, managing to be captured themselves and loaded into an animal-control truck. Vick, hidden and desperate, finds a way to slip inside and rescue them, peering through a narrow gap to see their looming danger.

With the bears in peril, Vick’s quick thinking pays off just as the train pulls away. He discovers that the bears are being transported to a testing facility, and he acts in a last-ditch effort to save them. His courage pays off, and the train departs with the bears reclaimed from danger. The journey isn’t over yet, though, because the bears find a way to hoist Vick onto the luggage car using a handcar, allowing him to ride home just in time for the annual celebration.

In the end, the forest’s unlikely alliance—part vigil, part rescue mission—delivers a heartening reunion for Vick and the animals he once feared would trap him away from the forest.
