In the chaos that follows, Charlie, Bryan Safi, Sarah’s employee in the organic foods venture, is shot and killed by Dwayne during a search for Sully. Sully’s health deteriorates from the lack of insulin, pushing the adults into a desperate confrontation. Bridgette’s coercive tactics culminate in a brutal sequence where she wounds Robert and subdues Sarah, trapping her in a running vehicle in a closed garage to stage a suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. A failed attempt to run him down ends in a crash that disables the truck, and a tense standoff begins. Bridgette attempts to coerce Sully into returning, but the bold child breaks away and flees toward safety.
