Medea Chakhava was a distinguished Georgian theater and film actress whose career spanned nearly seven decades, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of both the Soviet Union and the independent Republic of Georgia. Born on May 15, 1921, in the small town of Martvili, Georgia, she was the daughter of the renowned Georgian doctor Vasil Chakhava, which likely influenced her disciplined and dedicated approach to her craft. Chakhava first stepped onto the stage at the prestigious Rustaveli Theatre in 1941, during one of the most turbulent periods of the 20th century, and quickly demonstrated her extraordinary talent. She made her film debut just a year later in 1942, establishing herself as a versatile performer capable of captivating audiences across multiple mediums. After gaining initial experience, she further honed her skills by graduating from the State University of Theatre and Film in 1944, solidifying her academic and artistic foundation.

Following her graduation, Chakhava joined the Rustaveli Theatre company in Tbilisi, where she would spend the majority of her professional life delivering memorable performances that earned her widespread acclaim. Throughout her remarkable career, she was bestowed with numerous state awards, reflecting her significant contributions to the arts. Among these were the People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (awarded on March 7, 1960), the prestigious Stalin Prize 3rd class in 1951, the Order of the Badge of Honor on April 17, 1958, and the Medal "For Labour Valour" on November 10, 1950. She was also honored with the title of National Artist, a recognition reserved for the most exceptional cultural figures in the country. In 2006, a star bearing her name was dedicated outside the Rustaveli Theatre, cementing her legacy as one of Georgia's most beloved artistic icons. Medea Chakhava passed away on September 7, 2009, in Tbilisi, at the age of 88, leaving behind a rich body of work that continues to be celebrated in Georgian cinema and theater.
