Loyiso Gola was born on 16 May 1983 in the vibrant township of Gugulethu in Cape Town, South Africa, into a Xhosa family that would later shape his comedic voice. Growing up, he was described by himself as very reserved and shy, a temperament that changed dramatically after a chance opportunity to open for veteran comedian Marc Lottering during a high‑school event. His drama teacher recognised his latent talent and introduced him to the Cape Comedy Collective at age seventeen, where he began job‑shadowing seasoned performers as part of a school work‑experience programme. By the time he matriculated in 2002, Gola had already won the Sprite Soul Comedy Tour, a victory that prompted his relocation from Cape Town to Johannesburg to pursue a professional comedy career.
