The relationship gets another chance when they meet again in the tenth standard, and Varun’s warmth helps her shed her guard. Nithya is elected as the pupil leader, and her frequent interactions with Deepak, another pupil leader and her classmate, spark tension in Varun and lead to another moment of strain between them. The school years end with a complicated dynamic that tests their feelings even as they drift apart.

The narrative then leaps to their college days, where they briefly reset as friends and eventually fall in love. A summer vacation ushers in a harsh reality: Nithya leaves India, and Varun stays behind to face a future he wants to secure. Varun’s elder brother, who works in a software company, expresses a desire to marry his colleague, prompting his parents to negotiate with the girl’s family. The negotiations turn humiliating, and Varun’s parents’ care for their son becomes clear as they endure the embarrassment together. This moment inspires Varun to take his studies more seriously and aim for CAT, believing a stronger future will lighten the family’s burden.

When Nithya returns, she finds Varun deeply committed to his demanding path and believes he’s drifted away. She eventually suggests joining him at IIM Kozhikode, but Varun declines, explaining that hostel living would be too costly for the family. Their difference in priorities triggers another rift and a painful breakup. After graduating from IIM and securing a job, Varun embarks on a quiet search for Nithya, finally finding her in Manapad, Tamil Nadu, where she works as a schoolteacher at a tsunami relief camp. She remains wary and initially rejects his attempts to rekindle the romance, but a heartfelt conversation rekindles mutual interest and hope.

Nithya’s later return to India brings a new turn: she attends Varun’s sister’s wedding and then his engagement, exposing both the stubbornness and the tenderness that define their relationship. The events culminate in a realization that Varun still loves Nithya, prompting him to break off the engagement with his father’s blessing and travel to Nithya’s home to win back her trust. She apologizes for her past behavior, and they confess their enduring feelings for each other. The film closes on a hopeful note: they are happily married, continuing to fight and—ultimately—love each other in equal measure, a testament to the resilience of their bond and the slow blossoming of their forever together.
