Tsubasa Ono and Daisuke Yamada enter Shirato High School in Sapporo for parallel reasons: both are drawn to a place that carries the memory of past victories, and both cling to a dream that will test their resolve. Tsubasa, a shy girl with little self-confidence, longs to voice her thoughts through her trumpet, while Daisuke hopes to join the school’s baseball team and push it toward a regional championship. They strike a simple but lasting bargain: they will join the brass band and baseball clubs, respectively, and they will support one another as the season—and the years—unfold.

In their first year, the duo befriends Yasushi Kido, another curious student who also signs up for baseball, and meets Himari Wakita, who warns Tsubasa about the brass band’s demanding traditions. Tsubasa finds the path daunting: the trumpet requires a level of discipline she’s never known, and the relentless rehearsals push her to the edge of doubt. She endures and keeps going, buoyed by the steady encouragement of her peers and her own stubborn grit, with a pivotal hand from upperclassman Yuka Mori, who becomes a guiding presence as she mentors Tsubasa through early missteps and triumphs.

When Yuka Mori faces a setback—an injury that sidelines her from the national championship—she slips into a quiet depression. Tsubasa’s earnest visit to her apartment becomes a turning point: she insists on Yuka’s return and believes in the value of what they’re building together. The brass band, though it falls short of gold that year, gains a new resolve, and Yuka does come back to offer her thanks to the friend who stood by her.

Meanwhile, the baseball season mirrors the band’s struggles: the team also loses the regional title, but Daisuke is moved to witness Tsubasa perform a winning march solo, even when she isn’t supposed to, a moment that brings a sharp rebuke from a teacher and a deeper sense of what both art forms can demand from a person.

Two years pass, and the two remain central to their clubs, now as senior mentors. Tsubasa fights for one last chance to be part of the national championship team, requesting extra training until she earns her place. Her bond with Aki Mizushima, a gifted but moody trumpeter who has become a trusted friend, grows stronger as they face a cadre of ambitious juniors hungry for leadership. A new complication arrives in the form of Akane Sawa, a junior member of the baseball club who becomes a love rival, arguing that Tsubasa’s presence may be hindering Daisuke’s path to the regional championship after a difficult stretch.

To lift Daisuke’s spirits, Tsubasa arranges for the entire brass band to perform for him in the hospital ward, a gesture that blends music with medicine and memory. The plan pays off: Daisuke recovers enough to rejoin as a replacement catcher, and the team rallies around him as the regional championship approaches.

At the crucial regional showdown, Daisuke rises to the moment. He comes in as a replacement catcher and, in the next half-inning, delivers a walkoff home run that clinches the title for Shirato. In the afterglow of victory, Tsubasa visits Shirato’s hall of fame where love finds a natural confession: Daisuke admits his feelings, and she accepts, sealing their relationship with a kiss as the crowd cheers. The film closes on an uplifting note, with the brass band continuing to chase greatness, and, in the final credits, the team’s national championship triumph underscoring the enduring power of music, sport, and steadfast friendship.
