In the tranquil backwaters of Alappuzha, a mechanical engineering graduate named Karthik [Naga Chaitanya Akkineni] is driven by a larger dream: to become a filmmaker. He shares a two-story house with a conservative Syrian Catholic family who live upstairs, while the ground floor is rented by his own family. The landlord’s daughter, Jessie [Samantha Ruth Prabhu], is two years older and carries a wary, almost wary aura about men, shaped by her strict father. The moment they cross paths, Karthik’s feelings bloom into something genuine and immediate, even though Jessie, protective and cautious, braces herself against a romance that might invite trouble.

When Karthik’s sister hints that Jessie is visiting her grandparents in Alappuzha, he decides to follow, accompanied by his close friend Krishna [Krishnudu]. At first, he introduces himself to Jessie’s family as her classmate, insisting they can be nothing more than friends, a line that becomes harder to keep as their connection deepens. On a train journey that becomes a turning point, Karthik and Jessie share a kiss, and though she slaps him in the heat of the moment, their bond stubbornly endures. Over subsequent meetings, Jessie begins to acknowledge her feelings, yet she is haunted by the fear that her father would never accept a Hindu suitor.

Their proximity is eventually exposed when Jessie’s brother Jerry [Sudheer Babu] discovers their romance, and a brutal clash between Karthik (who also works as a part-time boxer) and Jerry unfolds. The fight reveals the clandestine affair to Jessie’s parents, who respond by arranging her marriage to Roy Thomas. The wedding becomes a flashpoint: Jessie refuses to marry Roy, and the couple continues to nurture their love in secret, even as the world around them tries to pull them apart.

As time passes, Jessie’s father presses to secure an arranged match, this time pulling Jessie into a rushed union with someone else. When Jessie reaches out to Karthik for support, he’s tied up with a film shoot in Goa and cannot answer her calls. A tense late-night conversation follows, and Jessie, feeling abandoned, ultimately makes the painful decision to end things with Karthik, convinced that their love cannot survive the weight of parental disapproval.

The story then leaps forward to reveal that Jessie has left for abroad with a marriage of convenience elsewhere, while Karthik undergoes another journey of heartbreak and healing. Two years pass, and he encounters Nandini [Sapan Saran], who falls for him, only to be unable to let go of Jessie, steering him toward a path of creative expression. He channels his heartbreak into a screenplay drawn from his own love story and envisions a film titled Jessie, casting Silambarasan as the lead and Trisha Krishnan as the heroine—an artistic reclamation of the past.

As time moves again, Karthik finally encounters Jessie in the United States, where she reveals that she refused to bow to her parents’ choices because they had rejected Karthik. The revelation strains old ties, and Jessie’s parents cut themselves off, a painful consequence that underscores the sacrifices they’ve all endured for love. Yet in a sweeping, symbolic culmination, Karthik and Jessie wed in both a Hindu temple and a church, uniting not just two people but two worlds. The film closes with the couple together, watching Jessie on the screen of a theater, a quiet testament to the endurance of their shared dream and the idea that love, even when stretched across years and borders, can find its rightful place. This is a story about stubborn hope, the costs of tradition, and the redemptive power of second chances.
