Genyo Kamura is a kind-hearted Yakuza boss who hides a dark secret—he is also a vampire. This unusual duality enables him to endure nearly any injury, but it comes with the necessity of consuming blood. Chaos ensues when a gunslinging priest and a fierce martial artist known as Mad-Dog arrive in Kamura’s town. Their violent confrontation results in Kamura being decapitated and his loyal second-in-command, Akira Kageyama, suffering injuries. In a final twist, Kamura’s severed head bites Kageyama, unknowingly passing on the vampiric curse.
As Kageyama stumbles through the streets in a daze, he bites an unsuspecting passerby, inadvertently triggering a wave of vampirism that spreads throughout the town. Soon, every resident has transformed into a vampire—except for the local Yakuza, who remain immune due to their unpalatable blood.
In an intriguing subplot, it becomes apparent that the Yakuza Captain has been covertly allied with the priest and Mad-Dog, who are anticipating the arrival of a “modern monster.” Meanwhile, the Captain’s condition deteriorates alarmingly, with her brain beginning to ooze from her ear. This so-called “modern monster” turns out to be a man donned in a frog inflatable costume—a surprisingly agile martial artist with the ability to hypnotize his victims.
As the film reaches its dramatic climax, two brothers from the Yakuza confront the priest, only to meet their demise while attempting to destroy the frog-monster. In a parallel showdown, an axe-wielding vampire boy ultimately dispatches the deranged Captain. Kageyama is then faced with the frog-monster in a fierce duel. After an intense exchange, the monster’s costume is shredded, revealing only its mask; Kageyama believes he has vanquished the creature by removing two band-aids that covered its navel.
In the aftermath, a weakened Kageyama shares a tender kiss with his love interest, Kyoko. However, his victory is bittersweet as he engages in a prolonged contest of strength with Mad-Dog, leading to Mad-Dog’s untimely death. The film concludes with Kageyama sprouting bat-wings and soaring into the sky, while Kyoko rings a gong, signaling the emergence of a colossal version of the frog-costumed monster that starts wreaking havoc on the landscape.
