In 1980, young George O’Dowd challenges his parents over his femininity and leaves home to share a squat with a friend who dresses as Marilyn Monroe and calls himself Marilyn. The pair makes a bold impression at Steve Strange’s fashionable Blitz Club, where George lands a cloakroom job and begins to push the boundaries of identity, style, and ambition. At the club, George’s romantic life proves tricky and often unfulfilling until he crosses paths with Kirk Brandon, a musician whose presence draws him in and who becomes a kind of mentor. Through Kirk, George meets the striking drummer Jon Moss, and a subtle crush starts to take shape that hints at deeper connections.

When his time at the Blitz fades and his relationship with Kirk cools, George turns to Malcolm McLaren, the infamous Sex Pistols manager, hoping to propel his music career into a new orbit.
