Who is the high‑school student who receives the mysterious totem?
Read the complete plot summary of Wishcraft, including all major events, twists, and the full ending explained in detail. Explore key characters, themes, hidden meanings, and everything you need to understand the story from beginning to end.
Brett Bumpers, a high school student portrayed by Michael Weston, stumbles upon a mysterious package one day that changes his life in unexpected ways. Inside, he finds a peculiar bull penis totem along with a note claiming it has the power to grant three wishes. Excited and curious, Brett’s first wish is to have the charming and kind Samantha (played by Alexandra Holden) attend the upcoming spring dance with him. Miraculously, the next day, Samantha invites Brett to the dance, making him believe that his wish has been fulfilled.
However, this newfound happiness is complicated by the presence of Samantha’s star athlete boyfriend, Cody, who is the school’s popular jock. When Brett drops Samantha off after the dance, she suggests they should revert to being just friends, leaving Brett heartbroken. In a moment of longing and desperation, Brett makes his second wish: for Samantha to genuinely fall in love with him and become his actual girlfriend. To his surprise, the very next day, Samantha breaks up with Cody and starts seeing Brett, which seems to confirm that his wish has indeed come true.
Meanwhile, a sinister presence begins to emerge at the school. A cloaked figure with a grotesquely disfigured face starts murdering students, creating a sense of fear and chaos. This mysterious killer seems unstoppable, adding a dark, threatening shadow over the seemingly happy couple.
Feeling conflicted about his wishes and worried about the consequences, Brett confesses that he previously wished Samantha into a relationship. As she struggles to process the truth, the cloaked figure attacks them. The situation escalates when this figure, who reveals himself to be Mr. Turner (played by Austin Pendleton), the history teacher, discloses his identity and motives. Mr. Turner explains he bought the totem and initially wished for his wife’s death to escape his troubled marriage. Additionally, he wished for “fuck-you-money”, which he obtained in the form of a staggering $100 million stored in a Swiss bank account.
Furthermore, Mr. Turner admits to wishing for supernatural strength, which he then used to kill the students on his personal hit list, seeing them as problems he wanted removed. The totem was sent to Brett because he was an exemplary student, and Mr. Turner reveals that once the totem is passed on, its power transfers to whoever holds it. As the danger intensifies, Mr. Turner’s agenda becomes clear: Samantha was on his list, and he intends to kill her next.
In a moment of crisis, Brett makes his third wish—he asks for greater strength and agility than Mr. Turner. This new power allows him to confront and ultimately defeat Mr. Turner in a fierce struggle, during which Brett kills him with a samurai sword. Afterward, Brett gives the totem to Samantha, freeing her from the obligation of falling in love against her will. She then uses the totem to restart their relationship on her own terms, choosing love and connection freely rather than through supernatural manipulation.
This story blends elements of horror, supernatural mystery, and dark humor, exploring themes of wish fulfillment, consequences, and the importance of genuine relationships. It ultimately emphasizes that true love cannot be forced by magic and that sometimes, the greatest strength lies in honesty and choice.
