Curly Bill Ilija Džuvalekovski and his gang have seized control of a quiet town, forcing its residents to flee to a nearby camp of railroad workers. Meanwhile, Apanatschi’s father, Mac Haller Walter Barnes, reveals to his 21-year-old daughter the location of a gold mine that only he and Winnetou Pierre Brice know about. Pincky Vladimir Leib and Sloan Petar Dobrić learn of its existence and, driven by greed, coerce Mac into guiding them to the mine, but Mac is killed on the way.
Pincky and Sloan then try to seize Apanatschi, who also knows the mine’s location, but she flees to the railroad camp for safety. Curly Bill learns of the gold when Pincky and Sloan visit the town, and the gang raids the railroad camp to abduct Apanatschi. Pincky and Sloan are killed and Mac’s murder is avenged.
Retaliation follows as the railroad workers assault and retake the town, freeing Apanatschi, who is sent to live with a Kiowa tribe. Curly Bill abducts Apanatschi’s little brother, Happy Marinko Ćosić, from the Kiowa, and Winnetou, in exchange for the boy’s freedom, shows the bandits the location of the gold mine. Curly Bill and his gang exploit the mine and return to the town with sacks of gold, now led by Bill’s right-hand man Judge Miha Baloh, who has disposed of his boss in a coup d’etat.
The railroad workers, however, have mined the town with dynamite and are lying in wait. In the final battle, with help from the Kiowas, they defeat the bandits and plan to rebuild the town with the gold given to them by Apanatschi, who goes on to marry Jeff Brown Götz George.
