Iva, Maša Mati Prodan, is a fourteen-year-old girl living in a comfortable middle-class home in Zagreb, Croatia. For her birthday she receives a digital camcorder and spends the rest of the day filming the events inside the family apartment. The film unfolds entirely through the camcorder’s lens, turning ordinary moments into a quiet, observant documentary that invites the viewer to see the day from a child’s perspective.

Her mother Željka, Anja Šovagović-Despot, is a meticulous, perfectionist housewife who copes with her problems by drinking. Iva’s stepfather Božo, Ivo Gregurević, is a loud, occasionally dimwitted entrepreneur who barks orders at home but behaves as a sycophant at work. He arranges a family dinner to bring in his business partner, Hoffner, Karl Menrad, under the pretext of negotiating a big deal, with Iva’s birthday serving as a convenient backdrop.

Darko, Iva’s cheerful uncle, Boris Svrtan, arrives and quickly becomes fascinated by the camcorder. Since no one in the house speaks German, Darko invites a friend, Nina, Barbara Prpić, who is presented as a polyglot, to help bridge the language gap. She ends up charming Hoffner, but the family soon discovers that she is actually an escort.

Tensions rise as Željka’s attitude toward Nina hardens, while Božo remains more tolerant on the surface. A spill at dinner sends the group to a nearby restaurant, where Hoffner enjoys the evening and shows sexual interest in Željka, a dynamic Božo largely ignores. The trouble peaks when Božo learns Hoffner has given his wife a hotel room number, and he races after him, though he arrives too late—the German had already left in a taxi.

Exhausted and late, the family returns home, and Iva powers down the camcorder for the night. The day—filtered through a young girl’s recording eye—offers a measured look at family fragility, desire, and the often uncomfortable gaps in communication, all laid bare within the confines of a single, ordinary day in Zagreb.
