Checco, a bouncer at a busy nightclub in Brianza, carries a clear dream: to become a carabiniere like his uncle Capobianco. After enduring his third rejection in a single year, the stubborn Colonel Gismondo Mazzini turns him down again. In a surprising twist, the Archbishop of Milan steps in and arranges for him to take a role as a security officer at Milan Cathedral, a position that places him closer to the city’s monumental Madonnina.

At the cathedral, he encounters Farah, a woman from the Arab world who pretends to be an architecture student to slip past security and reach the statue. She teams up with her brother and two other accomplices to place an explosive device at the feet of the Madonnina to seek vengeance for her family’s death in a bombing.

Checco and Farah’s relationship grows as they shelter in Checco’s family circle, including his grandfather’s dilapidated trullo in Alberobello, which Checco wants to demolish though it would cost €10,000. Over time, Checco falls in love, further complicating Farah’s mission.

Before Farah returns home, she gives Checco a suitcase believed to contain the bomb, warning him not to open it until they reach the Madonnina. When he finally opens the suitcase, he discovers a model of a house that hides the bomb’s activation mechanism. The actual device had been placed in the trullo, and the explosion detonates, demolishing the building as Checco had hoped.

Throughout the film, Checco keeps mentioning relatives sharing the Capobianco surname, a running gag that threads through the narrative and adds a touch of humor amid the tension.
