At an isolated filling station on a quiet border road, run by the drunken old man István and his handicapped friend Zoli, István’s long-lost son arrives—a sullen young man named Laci. Fresh out of prison and unable to find work, he hopes his father will help him get back on his feet. While Zoli is glad to have some company, István is unenthusiastic, not wanting any strangers about the place.

Next day, four prostitutes and two handlers arrive, en route to work in Switzerland. Their van refuses to start, and they all have to spend the night at the station. [Laci] shares a moment with Marcsi, one of the prostitutes, who wrestles with doubts about her chosen path. In the morning, István has a furious argument with one of the handlers, the man with whom he was supposed to be supplying illegal merchandise, and is killed. In the heat of the moment, Laci kills the murderer and pleads with Marcsi to join him as he flees, but she hesitates. When the owner of the girls returns with four more handlers, Laci reappears in another bid to reclaim Marcsi, and the confrontation spirals into further bloodshed.
