In 2068, a British aerospace powerhouse seeks a breakthrough that could redefine air travel. Brains, a brilliant but eccentric inventor, is given an open brief to design a truly revolutionary craft. He proposes an airship, a notion initially received with laughter by the executives, yet the proposal is approved, and the company goes ahead with Skyship One—a fully automated airship powered by an anti-gravity field. The launch carries the international rescue team’s crest: Alan Tracy, Tin-Tin Kyrano, Lady Penelope, and Parker, aboard a mission that promises a round-the-world voyage with computer-planned stops. Brains, meanwhile, is kept on Tracy Island as Jeff Tracy tasks him with conceiving a sixth Thunderbird machine, a challenge Brains tackles with a flurry of ideas that Jeff ultimately rejects.

The story widens as Alan and Tin-Tin travel to England in Alan’s restored Tiger Moth biplane, reuniting with Penelope and Parker. The quartet boards Skyship One, and the airship glides into the sky on a promise of technological marvels. Unbeknownst to the guests, however, a danger lurks aboard: Captain Foster and the ship’s stewards have been murdered and replaced by The Hood’s operatives, who now operate under the alias Black Phantom from a derelict airfield near Casablanca. Because the ship is fully automated, the impostors do not need to display any technical prowess to pass as legitimate staff, allowing them to slip into their roles without arousing suspicion.

Early on, a bugging device is discovered by Penelope in her cabin, revealing that Foster’s team have been recording and editing her voice to manufacture a fake radio message urging Jeff to dispatch Thunderbirds 1 and 2 to the airfield. The plan is to lure Skyship One into a trap. Parker uncovers the evidence of the editing, but the message is broadcast to Tracy Island before the guests can act. Jeff promptly orders Scott and Virgil to intercept in Thunderbirds 1 and 2, though Alan realizes the trap could be riding on the wind. Penelope acts quickly, relaying a warning just in time. When Skyship One touches down near the airfield, Scott and Virgil unleash the Thunderbirds’ rocket launchers to destroy The Hood’s base, and they head back to rendezvous with Skyship One.

Back aboard the airship, a tense firefight erupts among the guests and the impostors. Tin-Tin is captured, compelling the crew to surrender. In the crossfire, the anti-gravity system sustains damage, and Skyship One begins to lose altitude. The ship teeters on a radio mast at a missile base near Dover, its anti-gravity field weakening with every passing moment. With the airship perched precariously on the mast, rescue operations face a daunting obstacle: Scott and Virgil cannot approach without tipping the vessel, and no Thunderbird 2 pod is light enough to be deployed onto it. At Gordon’s suggestion Brains takes the unusual step of piloting the Tiger Moth upward to the ship’s top deck to airlift the passengers and crew away from danger, but he is captured and held at gunpoint by Foster and his remaining henchmen. Penelope, trapped in the plane’s cockpit, becomes a hostage as Foster attempts to escape. In a swift reversal, Alan shoots Foster, and the Tiger Moth roars into the air with guests and impostors clinging to wings and landing gear.

The dramatic sequence culminates in Skyship One crashing to the ground, its fall triggering a chain reaction that obliterates the missile base below. The imposter threat is vanquished in combat aboard the Tiger Moth, and Penelope’s emergency landing skills are put to the test as the little aircraft slices through danger on a collision course with obstacles: a factory chimney, a bridge on the M104 motorway, and a tree. Penelope engineers a nerve-wracking but successful landing in a field, while Parker is flung from the plane when it clips the treetop and falls to the earth. The aftermath sees Brains returning to the ground with a dramatic reveal: Thunderbird 6, the long-awaited sixth Thunderbird, is none other than the repaired Tiger Moth, now proven invaluable in the field and ready to take on future missions.

In the end, the mission’s fallout solidifies a new truth about invention and ingenuity: even a modest, traditional craft can become a symbol of resilience when equipped with the right minds and the right courage. The surviving crew members recognize that what began as a bold modernization project has evolved into a testament to teamwork, quick thinking, and the willingness to risk everything to keep others safe.
